“May You find Your resting place here,
Be enthroned upon our praise,
Let Your glory fill this temple,
We are Your people, You are our God.”
Resting Place, Awaken Generation
These lyrics from “Resting Place” reflect the cry of Psalm 132, a holy desire by King David to establish a dwelling place for God.
David’s unwavering pursuit of God is revealed in verses 3-5:
“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,
Or go up to the comfort of my bed;
I will not give sleep to my eyes,
Or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I find a place for the Lord,
A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Even as a King with countless responsibilities, David, prioritized God’s Presence above all else. For him, it wasn’t just about building a physical temple, it was about preparing a space where God’s Glory could reside and His people could encounter Him.
David understood God’s desire to dwell among His people. He grasped a profound truth: God, in His infinite love, yearns for intimacy and communion with His creation. This desire mirrors God’s heart throughout Scripture. From the Garden of Eden to the New Testament promise that God will dwell with His people and be their God (Revelation 21:3).
As we enter 2025, let’s embrace David’s mission of hosting God’s Presence. Like David, we are called to pursue intimacy with God and to create a dwelling place for Him here on earth.
Let us echo David’s cry in verse 8: “Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place.” May this year be marked by deep communion with Him, where His will is done on earth as it is in Heaven.
